Where do your meats come from?

Our meats are sourced from small family farms in Vermont and New England.

Is your meat organic?

No, our meat is not organic. Certified organic products must comply with strict regulations set in place by the USDA. These guidelines coincide with animal husbandry practices that meet criteria for an organic certification given by the USDA. These practices are often costly for the producer to set in place and maintain. The term organic does not specifically enforce humane treatment of animals. This is why consumers should also be aware of other terminology that the USDA sets in place which directly define how animals are raised and processed. These terms include all natural, free range, pasture raised, no antibiotics, no hormones and certified humane. All of our products meet one or more of these terminology criteria.

Is your beef grass-fed?

Our free range, all natural cattle are grass fed/grain finished and sourced from New England and East Coast family farms that are committed to raising cattle under strict humane conditions. These family farms value animal welfare which is why the cattle are "never-ever" fed animal by-products, are fed a vegetarian diet, and are never given antibiotics, growth hormones or steroids.

When I received my meat it was brown in color. What should I do?

Brown coloration is normal when meat is under vacuum sealed conditions and not exposed to any oxygen. Once, your package is opened the red color should return to the meat within 10-15 minutes.

When I opened my vacuum sealed meat there was a peculiar odor. Is this normal?

Sometimes when opening meat that has been inside vacuum sealed packaging it could result in a peculiar "musky" odor upon opening. This is a result of wet aging. As long as there is no peculiar coloration to the meat it should be safe to eat and the odor should go away within a few minutes.
